Illegal Parking
When are the parking gestapo going to leave the poor old drivers in the town alone and start clamping down on all the illegal waiting and parking around the schools?
Twice a day five days a week there are cars parked and waiting on the yellow lines and keep clear areas, I had to go up to the sorting office the other afternoon, it took 15 minutes to get along the road to it due to cars picking up kids, I thought I would cut through Hagsdell Road and come out at the bottom of Queens Road afterwards, but that was also bunged up due to school time illegal parking.
I understand the issues about parents wanting to ensure their kids get safely to and from school, but surely some of them could walk and give the kids excercise at the same time! What about car sharing could the schools come up wth a list or something to help ease the conjestion?
Sorry about the rant but it is a pain in the behind and does cause dangerous road conditions dodging round parked cars and opening car doors.....[:(!]

I could have walked to the sorting Office, but it would have been rather difficult carrying a parcel weighing 8kg and measuring about 3 foot in length. If it had been for anything else I would have walked to my local sub office on Ware road then carried on into the town as I usually do!

Thinks back to when he was at school...did i ever get a lift? Nope ! and it was 2 miles to my school. Had to walk or bus. Dare i say the excersize did me good.

I've posted on the subject of children being driven to school and I'll repeat this one 'til the cows come home.
I know someone who lives in Cherry Tree Green and drives her son to St Andrew's School. The walk must be no more than 5 minutes even at dawdling speed. She's got a vehicle that carries a fair number of people and often picks up other mums/children ON THE WAY!!!

I lived in Hertford, went to School in Ware caught a Bus and had to walk up a B****y long hill - no points for guessing which school. Lets let our Kids be Kids and no wrap them in Cotton Wool.

I think john is pointing out if the furthest away is 5 min walk then the people picked up must be less![:p]. i think cars are used as a status symbol rather than an actual need for transport. the reports on britten becoming a fat nation can partly be contributed to the fact that parents drive there children every where making them lazy. when i was young it was a treat to go out in the car. people lugged shoping home in trolies and walked there kids to school. [;)] there were fewer car accidents and a lot less congestion.

Today i saw one of my neighbours driving to the shops and then parking on the double yellow lines. By the time he has got in his car, started the engine and driven to the shops and parked it would have been quicker for him to walk.
Where were the parking attendents when i needed them!

Do you mean the parking gestapo wrongly ticketing people or the parking gestapo ticketing people for parking like idiots while the "nip" into the dry cleaners/video shop/chinese?
