Could not agree more,a few years back the Hertford funday is etched in my memory the town was buzzing..dam the `do gooders!'[}:)]

I remember there used to be a small event in the castle grounds followed by a larger event later in the year. I suppose yesterdays event was the small one and the twinning fete will be the larger. I can see how people going along yesterday and expecting an event on the scale of last years fun day would be disappointed. I have to say I don't miss the fun day either, at least not if it is anything like last years. The previous years event was good but last year it was bedlam. The venue is too small for an event of that size.

I was going to go, but go waylaid. Glad I didn't! I am all for making events as "safe" as they can, but we;re in serious danger of getting a sense of humour bypass in the UK. I have just come back from Belgium, not renowned for being anything other than boring.. Well, let me tell you, they, like the French, don't put up with this bureaucratic nonsense, I had a great time, my English friends live there, so go there very often to see the "real" Belgium and not what they'll have you believe. They had an open day at their local castle and grounds, a sort of Belgian BBQ and large beerfest and dancing and kids rides and a week long fairground and an open mic comedy section and singing section (very funny on a lot of beers! but open to all ages, so the wannabe kids in a grunge band had a go too). I imagine the UK was very much like Belgium at one point, they haven't been corrupted by consumerism.. yet. I hope never, I had the most fantastic time and our "Civic Leaders and Insurance Veterans" should go and see how a safe, fun, civic event can and should occur with nothing but fun, and happiness.. despite the gorgeous strong Beer.. yummmy!!!!

I thought yesterday was Vintage Bus Day, and the jazz band etc. was just an added bonus. It wasn't promoted as anything other than that, was it?

I read about it in the paper last week - page 7 of The Mercury. Bus time tables were available from Hertford Tourist Information Office.

first i've heard of it.. doesn't look like i missed much, but why aren't hertford events publicised to residents? I presume it's our council tax that's paying for it..

We wondered down just after lunch with the kids, my 4 year old thought the Punch & Judy was hilarious. I think it was great for children under 6 (bouncy castle/face painting/P&J and ice creams) not really for the whole family. shame no beer tent...

Advanced warning but there should be another (the third) Castle Street party later this summer.[:D] All in aid of charity and a fun time was had by all in the first two. Only time (currently) that we can drink outside the White Horse... more bureaucratic nonsense incidently..[:(!] CP Please repost as a new topic ::Admin

I thought the event at the castle last Sunday was good. It didn't pretend to be anything other than what it was. Our 4 year old enjoyed the Punch and Judy (although I can't see the attraction myself) and there was a bouncy castle, face painting and the jazz band. It was never meant to be Fun Day. Sunday afternoon felt like a village event and that was good. Not every event has to be enormous. Take a look at the twinning fete activities. Although I still think the twinning should bring performers and stall holders from the twinned towns it looks like it will be a large event with lots going on. Having organised events (for fun and for fundraising) I applaud those who put themselves out to arrange events in the town.

There are loads of events this year the town twinning and the charity rock concert being two of the biggest, go to the tic to find out some more about this. Funday might of been cancled but there are new events this year
