Bengeo Stories Exhibition Hertford Museum
23rd March – 29th June 2013
Tuesday - Saturday, 10.00 am - 5.00 pm
Free entry
This exhibition will highlight the unique stories of Bengeo; find out how this once rural village became part of the bustling County Town and discover the artists, pioneers and inventors that lived there.
You can also listen to accounts of people who lived their from the oral history tapes
A book of the same name will be avaliable to purchase.

It is in the Exhibition room of the Museum on the left when you go in the foyer. Opens on Saturday, hope it is of interest to visitors a lot of work and research has gone in to it I do know that!

Neither and both just Bengeo, most of the people and events featured were long before estate agents thought up those terms.............

I went yesterday and was a little disappointed. Not a lot on the village school and its TV appearance in 1958, Bengeo House (Harigay orphanage) Danesbury Reform School, the big Coranation Party in 1953 or the sale of the 'Golden Allotments.

The book has more about the allotments sale in it, the other things I am not sure but can only assume they just didn't have room for everything. There is a picture of Bengeo Cottage there which was the forerunner to Bengeo House.

Popped in there yesterday to see the Bengeo exhibition. Very disappointed. Bland. As previous comments have said, nothing about Danesbury School. I said to one of the staff that I had recorded a short video of a young girl interviewing an established resident of Bengeo about what had changed over the years and asked if they would be interested in having a copy. The reply was more or less "couldn't care less"

Its a shame you were dissapointed, there is a little bit about Danesbury and the schools in the book, I can only think they did not have enough info or pictures to make a feature at the exhibition, same probably for Bengeo House and the party. It must have been difficult to decide what to put in and what to leave out as it is such a huge subject when you get into it. It was never meant to be a complete history that would be impossible in the space they have. Hopefully most visitors will find something of interest.
I am surprised Buzz got that reaction they are usually very good. Maybe they just felt now it is actually all set up they can't add anything.

Given the space they have available I think they did well as they can't cover everything I am sure if they more space at their disposal they could have had a lot more on show and covered aspects of Bengeo's long history.
I appreciate a lot of work went into it, after all it wasn't just the display, I can imagine the amount of research that went into the book.
I know my 11 year old (into his local history) enjoyed it.
