Forgive me if I'm wrong, but in these times of austerity and retail decline, did the owners really believe that there was a market for a high street shop selling bird seed? Completely cuckoo if you ask me?

I believe it was the people with the garden centre at Cole Green........................it seems to have meant that Riverside are stocking less so will have to see what happens now. Yes there is a market for wild bird food probably not enough to sustain a town centre stand alone unit though.

A friend at Van Hages (a buyer) told me that they were meant to be doing very well. Shame to see another empty unit and am sad that it didn't work for them.

I for one would welcome a place in town to buy gardening bits and bobs, to save having to drive out to garden centres all the time, so it sounds like a good move. I did buy some bird seed there once, but the birds refused to eat it. I think they preferred my neighbour's fat balls.
