what happen to the park
i heard alot of talk about this skate park and the factors that it should open next year what is happening with this. I have been waiting nearly 6 years for the park, and all that the comes of the request of one is its too expensive its to dangerous. We need it youngsters who want to excell in the sport of skateboarding and bMX along with free stle mountain biking need it to get better. Think of it like if we get the park th youngsters will play less on computers and watch less tv but keep there fitness up by doing skateboarding etc. I am a keen snowboarder and i know from experience that the obove does work!!!!

My understanding is that it is still with Herts County Counci planning dept. Dont give up yet Mark !

I think you'll find that's East Herts District Council's planning department. HCC don't handle planning applications. [:)]

When in 1977 I had a skateboard, they had a park at Hartham that was a converted outdoor paddling pool. They dug it up and thereby causing a problem now. By the time they build another one, if they do, the fad again will have calmed down and the process will be repeated again. A word to any on the planning of this skatepark. Get your fingers out, before they get arthritic and get the kids off the streets and away from wheels of buses and cars.. Thank you!

Even if the fad for skateboards does die down DQ, I think a skatepark might become popular with the arthritic folk and the like in those little electric carts. I am pleased that these give mobility and independence, but they are becoming a menace. Today there were 2 abreast coming at me along Port Vale. Now perhaps if they had somewhere to go... I read in the press the other day of an old man who had knocked over and killed another old person after running his buggy into their zimmer frame. With our ageing population accidents like this are going to become more and more common. Who knows how many accidents could be prevented if only they had somewhere safe to race the things. Hertford could be the first to recognise this with a combined skate / buggy park.

Nora, you're right.
We should be planning ahead and making sure our roads are adapted to cater for these buggies. I suggest separate mobility device lanes.
Also, they should be fitted with GPRS transmitters so their usage can be tracked and the drivers can be charged per mile.

I don't think you can really call skateboarding a fad. It has been around for ages and is more popular now than ever before.

For info (one if not the) first Skateboard Park in the country was built on Portland , Dorset in 1976 (by a couple of blokes called Russ & Lorne who ran Baxters Wine Bar in Weymouth) Amazing the useless info you can remember I think I still have the T-Shirt.......

I can't wait till its done... to see them pulling off those great stunts, flying through the air, co-ordination and poise all in one! twisted angles, skinned knee's , broken bones, blood on the concrete, the wail of pain, sirens..

Still got mine from about 1988, a veritable tank compared to the slim-line versions of today [:D] Can't wait to try out the skate park once it's built, wonder if I am still as rad as I was back then [8D] I can predict a visit to QEII [B)]

I thought I was hip wearing no knee pads/elbow pads! I too can feel the siren of a big ambulance as someone says that old biddy hadn't a clue on how to use her skateboard... I'll just have to dig out my stilts!!!! [B)]
