11 a side football team?
Anyone know of a local 11 a side football team for my 40 year old other half to join? He plays at centre back apparently. Not looking for the best team out there really, just wants to play for a team that enjoy themselves. Thanks

I thought I saw some posters asking for players when driving through Stapleford although could have been 5 a side. I have no interest in football so didn't take much notice.
Also this was a few weeks ago so not sure if still relevant.

Bengeo have an adult football team as do Bury Rangers. I think the Bury Rangers web site is out of date but if you go to the contacts you should contact Phil Spears who is chairman of the club and still plays.

Bury are one of the oldest teams in the area - I made my debut for them in the sixties which is quite frightening! They have always been a local side and I'm sure Phil will welcome any newcomers. They are well organised but nowhere near 'pro' - the club was always set up for local youngsters however some of these are now veterans who have been with the club for years and formed their own team.

Bury Rangers are one of the largest clubs in the county, certainly outstripping Hertford Town and Bengeo in terms of numbers of registered players. yet they are a very friendly club that like to be seen as such. They are certainly not pro but are well run. With 500 + members you have to be. I coach there at youth level and have been involved for seven years.
Many of the players have been with the club for a long time.
They also attract new players in, at all ages. For example, their Under 13s will have four squads playing next season. Just shy of 60 boys playing and training every week in just one age group.
They also have an extremely succesful girls football section.
As well as the adult teams they are also putting a vets team together for us who have, how shall I say it, have more playing days behind us than ahead of us. :o) I know, 'cos my name is on the list to play if we get it up and running.
