A small rant. For those that don't know the ice house is that "bulge” in the Castle grounds oppo the White Horse. Quite old I'm told. For the last year or more the teenage BMX boys have been using it as a take off platform for their manoeuvres & basically b**gering it up (personal agenda here -when people from the White Horse were able to drink in the Castle grounds we managed to limit the damage - basically by sitting on the "Grassy Knoll" and getting in their way) The Council have obviously decided (albeit late) to take some action – re-turfing the “Knoll” & with an intent of putting up a barrier. This was doing well up to yesterday……. And guess what. A group of teenagers turned up last night & vandalised the turf being laid, fortunately for us taxpayers not too badly. Of course no-one is for one minute suggesting that these vandals are the same teenagers who use the Knoll as a BMX park. My natural Guardian reading “pink & fluffy” liberal instincts should say “poor souls, nothing else to do, give them a skateboard park” (which they should have had years ago and don’t because of bungling local politicians who don’t actually give one…) It’s not their fault; they are bored..! Yeah right. My growing grumpy old man persona is beginning to think otherwise. (And as an aside I’m sorry Bungle – see latest on Teenager post - but I might well be “self righteous & an ignorant cretin” but I wouldn’t read the Daily Mail if you offered me the National Lottery) I personally am getting sick to death of this large minority (discuss) of disaffected teenagers who are in small ways (& lets face it this is a minor incident in the scheme of things) damaging our quality of life. Am I the only liberal socialist in Hertford who is starting to get just a little bit sick of this type of behaviour? OK rant over. Mr Tigger Tigger
