Does any one know who to contact about putting pressure on the Highways department to get a decent By-pass around the Town instead of through the middle as the amount of accidents on the M25 seem to be increasing and making Hertford a misery[:(!]

Obviously, the Little Hadham by-pass has been given priority along with improvements to the A602 Ware to Stevenage section. http://www.hertsdirect.org/services/transtreets/tranpan/hertsltb/majorsherts/ltbA120BP/ I doubt that this will assist traffic in Hertford when there is a divert following a problem on the M11 or M25 but there were a lot of foreign haulage vehicles creeping along the A414 at Gascoyne Way for most of the day, trying to get to the A1 maybe.

Probably off topic but The Beeching Cuts of 1963 might have now shown a negative affect. Freight trains and public transport are proving a subject for discussion.

has been endlessly discussed, and there's definately a "grass greener" thing going on here. If there was a bypass the commercial aspect of the town itself would suffer. A simpler solution which would make a significant improvement would be to ensure it's dual carriageway all the way through. Also; Building a bypass "just in case" of m25 accidents is hardly a good use of money; Outside of accidents in the local area traffic generally isnt too bad around Hertford ( certainly no worse than anywhere else)

but you could do dual carriageway under the bridge quite easily, certainly for a lot less cost than a new bypass. then problem solved. merging is always a disaster on busy roads (obviously some further tweaks all through town would help too)

obviously it is too narrow now. So make it wider. Its not rocket science. you could even demolish the houses next to it if that space was needed. Would cost a lot less than miles of new road through the countryside. (and in fact these days bridge widening is a relatively simple and common thing)

The trouble is that instead of a bypass, they demolished the town a few decades ago. Far as I can tell because they didn't want to upset anyone rich.
