New Bus Stop, Cowbridge
Noticed today that a new bus stop has been installed outside the United Reformed Church in Cowbridge. Seems a bit odd as this is just about the narrowest part of the road and there is a bus stop less than 200 yards away. Anyone know why? I would think that a bus stopping there will add to the congestion caused in this busy road. Does anyone know why it has been put there?

This will make you laugh but when I was 5 I walked into the old bus stop thinking it would be funny to walk home with my mum with my eyes closed. Shortly afterwards, not because of my bumped head, the bus stop was removed. So if its put back again.. I will so laugh at the fact that I had a comedy bruise there for a few days... but I do think that its stupid putting it back there as the traffic levels are way higher than 1970 odd!! [:D]

A man who knows told me: "The introduction of this stop follows receipt of S106 developer contributions from Sainsbury's intended to upgrade bus stops to 'easy-access' standard (i.e. raised kerbs, footway improvements etc) along the route of the 333 bus which passes the site. This site was chosen as it is close to the Sainsbury's pedestrian entrance. The existing bus stop near Port Hill was unsuitable for upgrade due to the very narrow pavement, shallow kerbs which would be difficult to raise because of the adjacent houses and the proximity to a side road.
The two stops are both 'in service' so as not to disadvantage users of the bus stop further away from town. If, however, usage of this stop declines, then consideration will be given to removing it. All bus stops in Hertford are request stops, so buses will not stop unless a passenger wishes to board or alight."

This site was chosen as it is close to the Sainsbury's pedestrian entrance.This doesn't make sense. The bus stop is on the opposite side of the road to the Sainsbury's access. Anyone alighting from a bus here would have to walk back to the traffic lights by the old library to cross, so they might just have well got off by the castle.

It's not actually that difficult to cross Cowbridge there and most people would be getting on there to return to Bengeo. There is already a stop opposite for getting into Sainsbury's.

Perhaps it's not that difficult to cross there..........if you are young and active. If you're over 75, (which I guess a lot of the people travelling on the bus to Bengeo are) it's not quite the same. Whether you are getting on the bus or off it the safest option is to use the lights at Old Cross/

Why not put a bus stop actually outside Sainsbury's - it would make sense (apart from the inevitable queue getting back out of Hartham Lane, maybe?)
