Market danger

Has anyone else noticed that some market stalls are slowly creeping further into the road? This, combined with the burger van queue, the skip that leaks smelly water and the atrocious parking in Bull Plain, makes negotiating the town centre a pretty unpleasant experience. I am getting increasingly frustrated with the attitude of the pedestrians that frequent the market. Due to where I live, I have no choice but to drive through the town centre. To them I am an evil car driver that is driving through the middle of their shopping area. I'm always getting stared at or verbally abused and someone actually brought their fist down on my car once! They were under the impression that the block paved area between Oddbins and Accessorize is a pedestrian crossing. I can only imagine that the new town centre 'improvements' are only going to exacerbate this situation. I believe that the local authorities need to make a decision on whether Bull Plain is a road, a market or a car park. The coexistence of all three is eventually going to lead to a serious accident; pedestrians and cars do not mix well.

Rightly or wrongly, I think many people regard this area of town as pedestrianised on Saturdays. As such, cars are an unwelcome intrusion. It has been suggested by some that access to Folly Island should be via Hartham Lane and Thornton Street, with access via Bull Plain being blocked off. A decision is certainly needed.
