Whilst the food at Number 11 on Old Cross is really, really great, has anyone else noticed that the bar completely lacks atmosphere and has, recently, become pretty grotty? Bad management? I think so.[xx(]

I completely agree! I think the manager came from Elberts and really hasn't got a clue. But as you said, the food is brilliant.

Strange this opinion of Number-11 Dinning room and bar, I have never had a bad experience there and the atmosphere is fantastic. I review bars for a living and I think that when it is quite is has a nice ambiance and when it is busy it has a great vibe feeling. I have also noticed that chickpea who is very quick to attack the management at number-11 is also promoting the new menu and food at The Marquee Club. It seems funny that I have also heard that three people including this new chef at The Marquee Club were fired from Number-11 for stealing. I wonder what is happening here?

Firstly Jules 'who writes bar reviews for a living' is nobody allowed an opinion other than yourself? I find the lights at No 11 too bright in the evening, the toilets are often messy, i find it over-crowded at the weekend, it's smokey in the bar (and at the edge of the non-smoking restuarant), it often takes ages to get served, and you have to que to get it. Regarding The Marquee...does all your 'inside information' (HA!) mean that the food at The Marquee is no good? Or have you not done your professional review there yet? The Marquee is a different type of venue to visit in Hertford: it is spacious, fun and good for young people and old alike, to listen to live music. The fact they have now started serving good food is a bonus. And finally, Jules, I know the facts from No11 and nobody , let alone 3 people, were fired for stealing. They all left because the shifts were too short and therefore the money was rubbish, and the working environment went completely down hill. So you might want to stop making serious accusations about people you don't even know. So, Proffesional Reviewer Jules, you may want to get your facts straight in future or perhaps keep your Proffesional opinions to yourself. Nice communicating with you, Chickpea.

Dear Chickpea Firstly I seem to have upset you, you have taken this rather personal and i was only expressing my opinion alongside your own and did not address is directly to you. However since you have taken this personally I must retort. I must say that I do know of the Marquee Club and it is great, exactly as you said. It doesn’t surprise me that the food is great at the marquee Club, as you have pointed out on numerous occasions that the food in Number-11 is fantastic and seeing as the chef was from Number-11, it stands to reason that the standards would taken there as well. I never actually said a bad word about The Marquee Club. About the three people fired. It does seem from your intimate details of the opinionated working conditions that you were perhaps one of them? Just seems a bit strange that you have such personal views against Number-11. As to keeping my professional opinions to my self, well, I thought that was what forums were for! If you don’t like to take criticism (even though nothing was directed at you personally, only a defence against a crusade you seem to have against a well thought of establishment) you shouldn’t be so free to express you own opinions. Dear Jules, I am not one of 'the three' but i do know who they are and I do know what happened (very little actually.) And yes perhaps my 'review' was a little biased. My only problem with your message is that it is highly slanderous. You have made a serious allegation about someone which is not true and is completely unfair. It is illegal and i don't think you should go about bad-mouthing people like that. That's not unreasonable is it? Sorry to have taken it personally, it just annoyed me! Regards, Chickpea.
