Rock At The Castle
Congratulations to everyone involved in organising Rock At The Castle! A great day out for everyone. Some excellent bands, a good stage and PA plus plenty of food, drink and stuff for kids. Well done!
My only complaint would be the grossly overpriced bar - £3 for a bottle of Fosters or Strongbow is taking the proverbial. You can get cheaper than that at a restaurant or club! And no choice either - Fosters or Strongbow, nothing else. I notice the beer tokens were being sold by a local taxi-driver!

Accepting that the beers weren't cheap and the range was limited I think that it is unfair to describe the owner of the marquee club as a taxi driver!

Was the beer pricey because it was in plastic bottles? I'd rather pay more and be safe. Besides, when the gig is virtually free and you are allowed to take your own picnic, surely paying a bit more for the beer is ok? Who took the profit from the bar? If it was the Marquee I don't have a problem with the prices as they laid on a great gig. And as for choice - wine or Pimms would have been welcome, but I don't think there should be a huge choice as it just slows everything down and the logisitics start getting too complicated. This is the sort of thing that improves year on year, according to popularity and reputation.
Well done everyone involved - it was well organised and a good afternoon.

I thought £3 for a Fosters was a bit over the top...but the Marquee club did put this on for free so it didn't matter.
But.....I was in the Whit Horse afterwards and the barman asked if I wanted a plastic pint glass so I could take it over the castle grounds!! A bit late then but that would have been the way to do it!! Nice pint of pride (or what ever) whilst listening to excellent music!!!
Good day...well done. Hopefully it will be on next year with a louder PA!

A great day out in the sun! Musically it was, erm, interesting - definitely got better as the day went on. 3D Echo were great. I agree that the bar was a rip-off, but at least the security staff were sensible in allowing folk to bring their own drinks in as long as they weren't in glass bottles.
Could have done with some veggie food being available at the stalls, I had to sly to the chippy when I got hungry.
Full credit to the organisers, though - I hope to see this back year after year.

I saw the concert from the beginning and thought "The Runners" the first act were the best.. this was before the £3.00 Fosters kicked in! I really enjoyed the day, weather couldn't have been kinder and it was a good, fun atmosphere.. My only criticism was that people, despite town council volunteers going around all day with bags, just upped and left their rubbish, and we're not necessarily talking about teenagers here.. !!!!! I think it was great, I gave more thant the admission price as the Hospice is close to my heart. I would like to thank the Marquee and all the supporters and V&S scaffolding's stage was really magnificent.. I hope they make this an annual event, I know the Mayor generally wants to utilise the Castle Grounds a lot more in the future for all sorts of cultural events.. so as far as I am concerned, it was a great time, and I would love it to happen next year.. thanks to all....[8D]

Agreed...the Runners were fantastic - the best for me... pity they didn't have a later spot when there was a bigger crowd.
Hey guys this was a FREE event so lets not be too pick about a few extra pence for beers. Great event! Well done to the Marquee!

I don't really have a problem with the beer price.
I thought it was a great event. It was well organised and marshalled and the entertainment was good. It proves Hertford has the appetite for such events.
Any ideas on the attendance? It looked like over a thousand to me.

Apparently 3,500 registered over the course of the day with 1,200 in at one stage. Fantastic!

Interesting to note that The Hertford Times refers to "the first Rock at The Castle event", whereas in fact it's the second.
The first was in 2002, photos of which can be found at...
