This sunday (21st) Castle Street will be closed to vehicles for a free street party from 12 noon til 4pm. It is a fundraiser for deaf children (can't remember the acronym. NDCF?)There will be a bar (courtesy of the White Horse) various stalls, music and entertainment.

Went really well!! Great weather, loads of Pimms, lots of money raised, (tba when counting has finished) Queing at the White Horse bars - Nigel & his staff worked their whatsits off. All in all a very good day. Massive , massive thanks to all those retailers in Hertford who contributed to the raffle prizes. And equally those who did all the other stuff. The drums, the bric a brac/books (the Voghts, Jan & Paul & Hairy), Scaletrix (Adrian), the DJ, the face painting, the Tombolla. the Juggling, the kids area (Rob G) thr Pimms (mostly Charlie) the scooters,the Barbi & Curried away (Bel, Mad Mike, Stru, the Joes) Anyonne I've missed...? And overall Ian Butler who started it all, organised it all & worked his socks off.. Thats the end of the Oscar speech ( but honest Admin they all deserve a mention so please dont delete..) Tigger

It was great fun, and seemed to attract way more punters than the jazz in the castle grounds [8D] The Thai food was superb, although how you're supposed to eat a deep-fried egg with chopsticks I'll never know [:D]

You eat it from a bowl and shovel it in.. a local taught me in Hong Kong [:D] They don't even bother with the chopsticks!!!!

Thanks for Castle Street party version 3. The next one is in planning with the provisional title of Castle Street Goes Forth. The organiser has gone on a well deserved recuperation, but before he left he put in the take of around the £1,950 mark into the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) account, with trickles of cash still coming in. Well done to everyone.

I've moved here from the Annual Food Fair thread. It's now the middle of June and just eight weeks to go until the fourth Castle Street Party in aid of The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS). This year's event promises to be bigger and better than last year's. There's already a greater number of stalls, refreshments and entertainments. However, Castle Street is not yet filled! We're still on the lookout for stalls, entertainments and displays. In no particular order (and certainly not exclusively) I'm looking for people to sell or demonstrate their wares, services and talents; such as massage and other therapies, handicrafts, entertainers of all sorts, homemade food. Organisations that would like to turn up and demonstrate their equipment would be welcome (especially if children can participate). If anyone who was interested in the sadly aborted Pudding Fair (you may remember my email to you in January) would like to get involved, please let me know. My view is that it is important that anyone who has an interest in this type of event should have the opportunity to participate. It really is very rewarding (if tiring). Herewith an unashamed plug for the Castle Street Party this coming Sunday, free entry from 12 noon. Proceeds go to The National Deaf Children's Society. The road will be closed to traffic to enable a safe environment for families. Catering includes afternoon teas, Thai food, barbecue, ice cream, Pimms and The White Horse. Entertainments include a "drumnasium", children's creativity, air hockey, jugglers, magician, face painting and body art, scalextric racing and a scalextric exhibition, skittles, DJ Lew and The Green Onions Sound System, and, emergencies allowing, a fire engine (and firefighters!). Paradise Wildlife Park are bringing some (small) animals and there will be an exhibition of classic scooters. There are also several stalls (deli, cakes, pickles, balloons, how to lose weight, bric-a-brac, plants, aloe vera products, domestic assistance, musical instruments), as well as raffles etc. If anyone would like the opportunity to win 72 pints of London Pride for the price of one pint, have a look at the stop press on the Castle Street Party website (http://www.castlestreetparty.org.uk). If people would like to come along dressed as clowns or pantomime horses and add to the entertainment, please feel free. It's a party! Most stalls will be under gazebos, so you will be able either to shelter from the burning sun, or enjoy that lovely drummy noise that rain makes on a tent (hopefully the former). See you on Sunday.

Have just come back from the Castle Street Party. What a great occasion! The atmosphere was terrific with people from all ages and walks of life thoroughly enjoying the entertainment, food and drink, with not a yob in sight! The sort of day that makes you pleased to live in Hertford. Well done to the organisers.

Just come back from a 14 hour day in Castle Street. No time or energy to write anything other than thanks to the many folk who helped make it a great day's party (and not least to the weather person!!). Off tomorrow for a bit of a lie down. I'll post a more considered message on my return.

I agree, had a nice time but the large queues for drinks meant we left a lot earlier. A large bin full of cans of soft drinks for sale would have pacified my little ones and thwarted our premature departure.

I videod some of the festivities in Castle Street on Sunday. I have e-mailed Ian, offering the DVD to raise money for the charity, but have heard nothing back. I guess he is probably taking a well earned rest and not checking e-mails, but would really like to get in touch with him. Does anybody have a phone number for him?
