Hertford Carnival 2014

Hertford Carnival takes place at The Castle on Sunday 22nd June with the theme of Princes and Princesses.

There will be stalls, refreshments and entertainment at the Castle from 12 midday until 5pm.

Entertainment at the Castle includes prince- and princess- themed activities for children, who are invited to dress up and to come and behave like Royalty for the day.

Various other events, such as a fun fair and a classic car display, are also taking place pn Hartham Common.

Unlike last year, there will be no procession through the town, but organisations are being encouraged to apply to take part in the procession for next year's carnival.

The proceeds from the Carnival will be be split between two Hertford organisations, the town's Sea Scouts and Hertford Rugby Club.

Sea Scouts encompass the traditions of Scouting, as set up by Lord Baden-Powell in 1908, just with a sea based twist. Lord Baden-Powell stated that he began his scouting as a sea scout, referring to his 'first Scout camp' on Brownsea Island, and to his adventures with his brother Warrington, who was 'both a sailor and a boy at heart'. There are also many references in 'Scouting for Boys' to Sea Scouting.

Now based in Hoe Lane, Ware, Hertford Rugby Club (HRFC) was founded in 1932. There are currently teams for men and women, boys and girls. Ages start at 7 and end at ‘veteran’!

The money raised by Carnival 2014 will go to paying for a defibrillator to be kept at the club. We – the Committee and the Club - hope that no one will actually need this, but it will be a crucial piece of kit to have on hand in case of emergency.
