Hertford County Court could relocate to Shire Hall if plans by the Court Service go ahead.

The Court currently occupies the top floor of Sovereign House and deals with civil matters such as divorce and bankruptcy. Under the plans the court would move to Shire Hall, where it would share facilities with the existing Magistrates Court.
The HMCS plans are currently the subject of consultation as the service strives to cut costs by closing and merging courts across the country.
Sovereign House was built in the sixties and was once the HQ of several government departments, including Social Security and employment services. However, the building is now mostly empty and in a poor state of repair.
