Hertford Town Council has launched the annual Cheerful Trader competition, and the public are being encouraged to nominate those who go the extra mile to provide outstanding service with a smile in Hertford's shops, restaurants and other businesses.
Last year's competition received over 100 nominations, and it's hoped that this year the total will be even higher.
Last year's winner was Charlotte from Charlotte's Flowers, and the runners up were Cornish Herts on Maidenhead street and Alfie's Cornish Café on Post Office Walk.
Cllr Jane Sartin, Chairman of Hertford Town Council's Development and Leisure Committee, said: "This is an opportunity for people that shop, use services and eat out in Hertford to reward excellent service by nominating someone who works in our town for the Cheerful Trader award. From my own experience of our town centre I know that we are lucky in having many people who would be very worthy winners, and one of the town's strengths is the high level of personal service that is so often the hallmark of independent traders.”
Sonia Cousins, the manager of the council-run Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre, said: "Following the success of the competition last year, we wanted to continue to give the residents and visitors to Hertford the chance to show their appreciation for the excellent service they receive. It's for traders that have gone out of their way to help other people and deserve to be nominated." The winner will be announced at the town's Christmas Gala on Friday 25th November and receive a trophy and a certificate.
Nomination forms are available from the Town & Tourist Information Centre and should be returned by 5pm on Thursday 24th November.
