New Car Park Charges Approved

New charges for use of council owned car parks have been approved by the District Council.

The new charges will include a free initial 30 minute period, meaning that charges will only be levied after 30 minutes. All other charge bands have been pushed back 30 minutes as a result, with no changes to prices. This means motorists parking for between 30 and 90 minutes will pay 80p. A three hour stay will drop from £1.80 to £1.50 and a five hour stay from £3 to £2.70.

A flat rate evening charge of £1 will also be introduced, running from 4pm to 10pm, again with an initial 30 minute free period.

Car parking prices have been frozen since 2010.

The proposals will now be the subject of a Traffic Regulation Order and public consultation before being introduced.
