A mother and child were trapped in a lift in Bircherley Green for nearly an hour after an emergency alarm went unanswered.

The car park supervisor left his office without taking his mobile phone, leaving Claire Preston and her two year-old daughter Isobel stranded in the lift.
The pair were eventually released by a member of staff from Waitrose, together with the site manager and two traffic wardens. The store was alerted after Claire telephone her mother from the lift, who then contacted the Bircherley Green store.
The counci's parking contractor APCOA are now conducting an investigation into the incident and will be reviewing their procedures, according to a council spokeswoman, saying: "We apologise profusely for this error and we have asked APCOA to investigate how this happened.".
